Australia will again look to Travis Head when they meet England in Brisbane for the second Ashes Test. His fiery century in the Perth opener powered the team to a 1–0 lead. Head’s 123 from 83 balls, scored in pursuit of 205 on a tough surface, was nothing short of exceptional.
Despite his strong performance as an opener, he admitted that his batting position for the second Test is still undecided. The left-hander explained that he is prepared to bat anywhere and confirmed that the final call on his spot in the order has not yet been made.
“I’m the kind of player who’s comfortable adapting to any role. I’m willing to take on whatever the situation demands, and it’s all about recognising those moments during the game. I believe every possibility is open, and it has been that way for quite some time as we look at how this team can continue to improve,” he said.
Looking back at his first Test innings, he mentioned the rhythm of his knock and said he wouldn’t alter that approach even if he opens again on Day 1 of the next match. Head started slowly, scoring only three runs off his first 14 balls, but once England went after him with a barrage of short deliveries, he accelerated rapidly and reached his century in just 69 balls.
“My approach wouldn’t have been very different in key moments. It always comes down to judging the risks, knowing when you could lose your wicket and when the odds are in your favour. I’ve always focused on playing the percentages that benefit me. I was satisfied with how I handled my first 30 to 40 deliveries, and then they switched to the bouncer strategy. I would’ve stayed positive in the first innings as well. The way I shifted through different gears during that knock gives me a strong template going forward, especially for dealing with fuller balls and the short-ball tactic,” he added.
