Former India captain and the current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has given his consent to shoot a film based on his life.
In his latest interview with News 18 Bangla, Ganguly himself confirmed the news. He said, “Yes, I have agreed to the biopic. It will be in Hindi but it is not possible to reveal the name of the director now. It will take some more time for everything to be finalized.”
According to the latest media reports, the movie is likely to have a budget of around INR 200-250 crore and it will show Ganguly’s entire cricketing journey – from scoring a hundred on his Test debut at Lord’s to becoming the chief of the Indian cricket board.
Notably, renowned Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor could play the lead role in Ganguly’s biopic.
The 49-year-old was approached by many production houses for his biopic but the former batsman turned down their offers. It was Viacom that convinced him to do the biopic under their banner.
After Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly will be the fourth legendary Indian cricketer whose life will be portrayed on the big screen.
Earlier, when Neha Dhupia suggested that Hrithik Roshan would be the best choice to play Sourav Ganguly on screen, Dada said, “He’s got to get a body like me, first. A lot of people would say the way Hrithik’s body is, how good-looking he is, and how muscular he is, people would say ‘Aree, you’ll have to get a body like Hrithik’. But, Hrithik will have to get a body like me before he starts.”
