Iyer must not be dropped at any cost, and neither should Mayank Agarwal, who hasn’t got enough opportunities to find his rhythm back in a stop-start Test career.

Shreyas Iyer became the 16th Indian cricketer to score a Test century on debut. The right-handed batter reached the landmark in the 92nd over of India’s innings by taking a couple of runs on Kyle Jamieson’s delivery.

Shreyas, who was included in the side after KL Rahul was ruled out, grabbed his chance with both hands to make his debut a memorable one.

He featured in a century stand with Ravindra Jadeja to bail his team out of a mini collapse.

Before Shreyas, 15 Indian batters had scored a hundred in their debut Test.
