With Rahul Dravid coaching the Indian limited-overs team for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, many fans believe that the legendary batsman will soon become the new head coach of the team when Shastri’s tenure ends later this year.
Sharing his views on the same, Kapil Dev said, “I don’t think there is any need to speak about this matter right now. Let this Sri Lanka series gets over. We’ll get to know the kind of performance our team has dished out. If you’re trying to shape a new coach, there’s nothing wrong with it.
“If Ravi Shastri continues to do a good job, there’s no reason to remove him either. I think there is no need to put unnecessary pressure on our coaches and players,” the World Cup-winning captain said.
Under the coaching of Shastri, India defeated Australia in Australia twice and also reached the last four of the 2019 World Cup. The Virat Kohli-led side even secured its berth in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) but lost the summit clash to New Zealand by 8 wickets.
Team India is yet to win an ICC tournament under Ravi Shastri.
