Soon after India’s crushing defeat, fans took to social media to slam Virat Kohli for his poor captaincy.

Team India was outplayed by New Zealand in the all-important final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Kane Williamson’s men defeated Kohli & Co. by 8 wickets on the last day of the summit clash and clinched their first major ICC event since 2000.

India had a miserable start to Day 6 – the reserve day of the WTC final as they lost both overnight batsmen Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara early in the innings

None of the Indian batsmen were able to score quickly against a high-quality Kiwi bowling attack and the team bundled out for a below-par score of 170 in the second innings.

However, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin removed both the New Zealand openers Tom Latham (30) and Devon Conway (54).

But Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor performed exceedingly well and led New Zealand to win with eight wickets in hand. Both the experienced batsmen took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners.

The duo stitched an unbeaten partnership of 96 runs for the third wicket and guided their side to the first-ever WTC title.
