India handed a 90-run defeat to New Zealand in the 3rd and final ODI to sweep the series 3-0. With the win, the Men in Blue became the number one ranked ODI side and are looking like favourites for the upcoming World Cup.
One of the biggest positives from yesterday’s game was Rohit Sharma, who ended his century drought and scored his 30th ODI hundred. Sharma previously struck a ton in January 2020 against Australia.
Despite a match-winning knock from Sharma and his opening partner, Shubman Gill, who also scored a hundred in the match, the player of the match award was presented to Shardul Thakur, who took a three-wicket haul and contributed 25(17) with the bat.
Thakur was brilliant with the ball and helped India restrict New Zealand to 295 runs. However, one instance that has been doing rounds on the internet is a short clip of Rohit Sharma losing his cool over Thakur for conceding two consecutive boundaries.
Sharma, who has earned himself a negative reputation for losing his cool over his teammates, got irked by Thakur, who bowled two consecutive short balls to Devon Conway and went for fours.
In the video, Rohit can be seen approaching Thakur and giving him a handful for his line and length.
Rohit made 101(85), which included nine fours and six sixes.
