Ahead of the ICC World Cup, which begins on October 5, former India opener Gautam Gambhir backed Rohit Sharma to lead India well in the World Cup. He silenced the doubters and remarked that the hitman has won five IPL trophies. Gambhir also took a dig at Virat Kohli and stated that some players have not won a single IPL trophy.

“There was no doubt towards Rohit as the captain. He has won 5 IPL titles, while many have not won it once. He faces a real test in 15 days and is expected to do well. If he is unable to deliver, he will be under immense criticism and scrutiny. Virat Kohli faced the same questions, Rahul Dravid did in 2007.”
In the end, Gambhir stated that the current Indian batch has the potential to make it to the World Cup final.
