The 16th edition of the IPL is a week away, and all the ten franchises are sweating it hard in the nets. Besides eyeing the trophy, the teams are also sweating over their players’ fitness as almost every team has dealt a setback before the start of the season.
Delhi Capitals were the first team hit with injury, as their regular skipper Rishabh Pant met with a fatal accident on December 30, when the 25-year-old ramped up his car on a divider, following which he sustained a ligament tear in his left knee that ruled him out of the coming season of the IPL, WTC final and probably the World Cup as well.
The DC group announced David Warner as the skipper for the coming edition, but head coach Ricky Ponting, speaking to the press, talked about Rishabh Pant and called him Delhi’s leader despite his absence.
Ponting, interacting with the media, spoke highly of Pant and expressed his desire of having the southpaw next to him in the dugout during the entire IPL. Punter also announced a special gesture that the Capitals are planning for Pant.
The former Australia skipper revealed that the management is contemplating wearing Rishabh’s jersey number on their shirts or caps. “Ideally, I would love him to sit next to me in the dugout during every match. If that is not possible, then the management is planning to have his jersey number on our shirts and caps. Also, to be clear, Pant is our leader despite him not being with the team.”
