On Wednesday, BCCI held its Apex Council meeting, where they discussed central contracts, the new selection committee, and the changes in the Indian team.
After the meeting, the apex board did not give any official update about their future plans. But as per trusted news portals, a source from BCCI has told ANI that BCCI is planning to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as the new white-ball captain.
Before the meeting, several had touted Pandya to take on the leadership role in T20Is after leading Gujarat Titans to glory in their inaugural season. But the board is also mulling over handing the ODI captaincy to Pandya, with just ten months left for the 2023 World Cup.
“The board decided to make Hardik the new white-ball captain. We discussed it with Pandya, and he has asked for a few days to give a response. There is no official decision taken on this matter, but yes we discussed the possibilities of handing Pandya the white-ball captaincy,” the BCCI source told ANI.
Pandya has had a great run as a leader in recent times. In 2022, he led Gujarat to the IPL title.
Impressed by his captaincy, the BCCI named him the captain for the Irish tour in July, where he won 2-0.
Pandya’s next stint as the Indian captain came recently right after the 2022 T20 World Cup when he led the side for the Kiwis tour. However, he has not captained the side in the fifty-over format.
