Shreyas Iyer injury
Ajay Jadeja blamed poor gym routine behind Iyer's injury

Since the start of 2023, the Men in Blue dealt several blows as numerous players, including Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer, had to miss crucial games because of reoccurring injuries. Further, the list of Indian players getting doubtful for the coming season of IPL is concerning, and the list keeps growing with each passing day.

Recently Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered a back injury, underwent back surgery, and now Shreyas Iyer, dealing with the same issue, is also likely to follow Bumrah’s path and opt for surgery, which will rule him out of the IPL and the WTC finals.

Meanwhile, several experts opined on the increased volume of injuries in the team, and even the BCCI reprimanded the doctors at the NCA over fresh cases of injuries.

Recently, Virender Sehwag appeared on a podcast, where he bashed the gym regime of players and slammed players for lifting weights, which the former opener felt is the reason behind these injuries.

After Sehwag, Ajay Jadeja also criticised the gym routine of the players. Reacting to Iyer’s surgery news, he stated that he heard of a batter opting for back surgery for the first time. The 50-year-old also stated that weightlifting is the reason behind players getting back issues.

“I am shocked. Injuries happen all the time, but back surgery for a batter is news to me as I have never heard of it before. Players have to be careful. Weightlifting has its advantage, but there is another side to it also. Hope, he gets well soon.”
