Former India pacer Mohit Sharma has shared his all-time Chennai Super Kings (CSK) XI ahead of IPL 2026, and his selections surprisingly excluded former opener Murali Vijay, despite the latter’s strong contributions to the franchise over the years. Vijay scored 1708 runs in 70 innings for CSK and played an important role in several campaigns.
Speaking on a Cricbuzz YouTube video, Mohit chose Michael Hussey and current CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad as his opening pair. Hussey represented the Super Kings in 50 matches before retiring after the 2015 season, accumulating 1768 runs with 13 half-centuries and one hundred. Gaikwad, who made his debut for the franchise in 2020, has been a reliable performer at the top of the order, amassing 2502 runs in 70 innings, including 20 fifties and two centuries.
At No.3, Mohit opted for former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis, who posted 2721 runs during his time with CSK and played a part in two championship-winning seasons. He placed Suresh Raina next in the batting lineup, with the left-hander still ranking as the second-highest run-scorer in CSK history after compiling 4687 runs in 171 innings.
Ambati Rayudu was slotted in the middle order following his contribution of 1932 runs in 80 innings and involvement in three championship-winning seasons. MS Dhoni was named both skipper and wicketkeeper. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK secured five IPL trophies, while he also became the franchise’s highest run-scorer, accumulating 4865 runs in 215 innings, including 22 half-centuries.
For the all-rounder role, Mohit picked Ravindra Jadeja at No.7. During his CSK tenure, Jadeja appeared in 186 matches, managing 2198 runs and claiming 143 wickets.
In the bowling lineup, Ravichandran Ashwin was slotted at No.8 after taking 97 wickets in 106 matches for the Super Kings. West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was another inclusion, having played a key role in three CSK title wins, scoring 1004 runs and claiming 140 wickets in 116 games.
