The Mohammed Shami-Hasin Jahan case has taken a new twist. Shami’s estranged wife has moved Supreme Court to challenge the stay on her husband’s arrest.
Notably, Jahan had accused Shami of dowry,match-fixing, domestic violence, and extra-marital affairs in 2018, following which the session court issued an arrest warrant against the right-arm Indian seamer.
Soon Shami got relief from the Kolkata High Court, as they put a stay on his arrest. Although, the court ordered Shami to pay a monthly allowance of 1,30,000 to his estranged wife.
In May, Jahan moved to the Supreme Court challenging the stay on Shami’s arrest but wasn’t heard until now. In a recent event, the apex court heard the plea filed by Hasin Jahan. CJI DY Chandrachud ordered the session court to re-visit the case and finish the proceedings within a month.
Further, CJI also directed the session court that if they are unable to finish the case in a month, then the judge may pass an order for modification of the order of stay.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami last featured for India in the WTC final and has been given a rest from the upcoming West Indies tour.
