Overview:

Following his signing with Kolkata Knight Riders, Green spoke about his eagerness to experience the atmosphere at Eden Gardens and play a role in the team’s season ahead.

Cameron Green first innings after the IPL 2026 auction did not go as planned. Picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 25.20 crore on Tuesday, the Australian all-rounder struggled to make an impact. He was dismissed without scoring after facing just two deliveries. Green was undone by England quick Jofra Archer on the opening day of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide on Wednesday.

The player drew massive attention at the auction, sparking an intense bidding battle between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, with CSK stretching their offer to Rs 25 crore. With a purse of Rs 64.3 crore, KKR eventually seal the deal. The signing made Green the most expensive overseas purchase in IPL auction history, eclipsing the previous record set by his Australian teammate Mitchell Starc, who was bought by Kolkata for RS 24.75 crore ahead of the 2024 season.

Following his signing with Kolkata Knight Riders, Green spoke about his eagerness to experience the atmosphere at Eden Gardens and play a role in the team’s season ahead. The franchise subsequently released a video of his message on its official X account.

“I’m really excited to join Kolkata for this IPL season. I want to experience the vibe at Eden Gardens, settle into the atmosphere and hope we have a fantastic year. So, see you soon,” he said.

Green’s inclusion is likely to give a major boost to KKR, with his skills as an all-rounder providing the team with balance in the batting and bowling departments.

The Australian all-rounder featured in the 2023 and 2024 IPL campaigns for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In 29 matches, he has scored 707 runs at an average of 41.58 and a strike rate exceeding 153, including a century and two fifties, while also picking up 16 wickets at an average above 41.5. He missed last season’s auction due to injury.
