Virat Kohli, Joe Root
Virat Kohli is not the highest-paid captain in the 2020-21 season.

India skipper Virat Kohli is one of the highest-paid players in world cricket at the moment. He is way ahead of any modern-day cricketer in terms of net worth, evident from the fact that Kohli was the only Indian in Forbes’ rich list of top 100 athletes last year.

The 32-year-old is also one of the Indian players with a Grade A+ contract and draws a salary of Rs 7 crore per year.

Moreover, the Delhi-born player, who has been playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2008, was retained by the franchise for Rs 17 crore ahead of IPL 2018 mega-action.

But Virat Kohli, one of the richest players in international cricket, is not the highest-paid captain in the 2020-21 season.

According to The Cricketer.com, England Test skipper Joe Root earns more salary than Kohli which makes him the highest-paid captain in world cricket.

As per the report, those with ECB’s red-ball contracts have a salary of around £700,000 per year (INR 7.22 crore approx).

Apart from Root, English pacer Jofra Archer is also one of the players with a red-ball contract and draws higher salary than the Indian captain.

However, the amount earned by Kohli and Root will change if we add other incentives and rewards. But as far as the amount of salary is concerned, the Indian stalwart sits next to the Englishman.
