Delhi Capitals spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is all set to play in the 14th edition of Indian Premier League, has admitted that the Mumbai Indians will be the team to beat in the upcoming tournament.
The veteran India off-spinner also reckoned that Rohit Sharma’s men will start as favourites in the IPL 2021.
In the IPL 2020 final, the Mumbai-based franchise thrashed Shreyas Iyer-led side by five wickets to lift its fifth elusive title at the Dubai International Stadium.
After leading his side to five historic triumphs, MI skipper Rohit Sharma will now be eyeing to become the first captain in the tournament’s history to win three titles in a row.
Talking about DC’s chances of winning in the upcoming season, Ashwin said that Rishabh Pant’s prolific form with the bat can make a lot of difference for the team.
“Every team is strong, and I am not making a diplomatic statement. But I definitely think Mumbai has got a powerful and experienced squad. Mumbai will always start as favourites in this competition. I think they are the team to beat,” Ashwin told newindiaexpress.com.
“Last year, our batting did not come well together. It was understandable due to lockdown and all that. But this year, in the kind of form in which Rishabh is, definitely that will also get sorted out,” the 34-year-old added.
Notably, Delhi Capitals will start their campaign against the Chennai Super Kings on April 10 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
