The Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul has showered praise on his teammate Chris Gayle ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, which is all set to start from April 9. Rahul feels that the West Indian stalwart is just getting better with age.
The Indian batsman, who was the highest run-scorer in the IPL 2020 in UAE, recently revealed that he spends almost 3 to 4 hours in the nets to hone his batting skills. But Gayle always plays a “blinder” despite being in the parties on the yachts.
Speaking in a podcast on Red Bull’s Decoding Athletes series, the 28-year-old said, “Every time Gayle comes back, he keeps getting better and better. I really wonder how he does that. It’s like he’s always on the yacht, partying. And then he turns up and plays the way he does.
“For someone like me who spends three-four hours getting my batting and skill right, I really wonder how he does it. So, I’m really looking forward to having him in the team and hitting some gigantic sixes,” Rahul added.
The ‘Universe Boss’ didn’t play the first half of the tournament last year. But when he finally got the chance to showcase his batting prowess, he made the most of it.
In the IPL 2020, Gayle smashed 288 runs in just 7 games at a brilliant average of 41.14 and a strike rate of 137.14.
The Punjab-based franchise will start its campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on April 12 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
