Former West Indian cricketer and one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket, Brian Lara has heaped praise on Devdutt Padikkal, who is currently playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League.
Lara wants Padikkal to score a couple of centuries and bag a few ‘Man of the Match’ awards to his name in the IPL 2021.
The 20-year-old batsman was the leading run-scorer for RCB last season, with 473 runs in 15 innings at an average of 31.52 and a strike rate of more than 120.
Speaking on Star Sports’ Select Dugout Live Feed, the 51-year-old said, “Padikkal is such a great talent. Last year he got a couple of fifties, he batted very well. What I want to see in IPL 2021 is for him to go on and get a few man of the matches and get a couple of triple figures under his belt.
“A few little things to iron out for him. I hope he did that in the break and comes back really storming hard for this IPL,” Lara added.
The youngster had missed RCB’s first match of IPL 2021 against Mumbai Indians as he was in quarantine after being tested positive for novel coronavirus.
However, Padikkal joined the RCB camp later and also featured in his side’s second game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Virat Kohli-led side has won both the games in the season so far. They will next take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk on April 18.
