India won the ODI series against South Africa 2-1, but the team was punished by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Men in Blue were fined for maintaining a slower over-rate during the second match at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
India lost the game by 4 wickets, which allowed the Proteas to level the series 1-1 before the hosts registered a nine-wicket win in Visakhapatnam to clinch the series.

Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, the two on-field umpires, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal levelled the charge against the KL Rahul-led team. The fine was imposed by the ICC match referee, Richie Richardson.
Skipper Rahul accepted the charge; hence, there was no need for a hearing. Indian batters showed their class in the series, with Virat Kohli scoring 302 runs, including two hundreds and a fifty.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad also scored centuries. Former skipper Rohit Sharma also made useful contributions with the bat, accumulating two fifties. With the ball, the pacers and spinners were impressive in challenging conditions due to the dew.
India will now face South Africa in a five-match T20I series, starting Tuesday, December 9, at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The remaining contests are scheduled in Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow and Ahmedabad on December 11, 14, 17 and 19, respectively.
Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya will be seen in action. Gill was injured during the Test series against South Africa, while Hardik has been missing in action since the last league match in the Asia Cup 2025.
