Australia’s tour to India will conclude tomorrow when the two sides battle it in the third and series decider game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India, who won the first game comfortably, faced a humiliating 10-wicket defeat in the next match, which attracted heavy criticism towards the players.
Virat Kohli was trolled heavily for failing to score big in another game, and the 34-year-old is yet to score a fifty in this three ODIs series. Another reason why the former India skipper is mostly in news is whether he can break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries.
Virat recently ended his century drought in Test cricket when he amassed 186 in the final game of the BGT. The right-hand batter took his ton tally to 75 and is 25 hundreds away from levelling Sachin.
Former Pakistan seamer Shoaib Akhtar, who recently won the Legends League Cricket title with Asia Lions, spoke about Virat and stated that the 34-year-old could go on to break Sachin’s feat if he retires from T20Is and focuses on the other two formats.
“Virat should leave T20Is, as the format takes a lot out of him. He needs to save his body for the other two formats. He is 34 right now, and given his fitness level, he can easily play for 6-8 years. If Virat plays 30-50 more Test matches, it would not be difficult for him to score 25 centuries.”
