The SA20 league commenced on January 10, and UAE’s T20 tournament, ILT20, will also kickstart its inaugural season on January 13.

England’s star red-ball batter Joe Root, who last played a T20I match four years ago, will be featuring in the ILT20 league. The 32-year-old signed up for Delhi’s franchise Dubai Capitals.

The in-form player has done wonders in Test cricket but has not quite replicated the same in a white ball, which is why he was often ignored for global T20 leagues.

However, with Brendon McCullum changing the brand of cricket England play Test cricket, it forced Root to shift gears, resulting in him landing offers across countries and especially in the IPL when Rajasthan Royals bought him last year for the upcoming season.

Reacting to the pressure of performing in unknown territory, Root praised his idol Sachin Tendulkar and said that he looks up to Sachin for how he handled tremendous pressure in his playing days.

“There are several great players, but Sachin is different and special. His longevity and the ability to be high performing from a young age is remarkable.”

“He has carried the weight of many for 20 years. He made his debut before I was born and was still playing during my debut, which shows what he has done for Indian cricket.”

Root further added that he admired Sachin as a kid and that the Indian legend was a standout player for him growing up.
