India announced the squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia, with veteran Ajinkya Rahane making a comeback after a long time. A section of former players and fans are not pleased with the call, as Rahane was dropped from the Test squad almost a year ago and hasn’t done anything great to merit a return.
However, Harbhajan Singh has backed the decision, calling Ajinkya a team player. But he took a dig at the BCCI for dropping a match winner Suryakumar Yadav.
“I am 100 percent with the call of recalling Ajinkya Rhane for the WTC Final against Australia. He has been a great player and captain. We need experience players in England and Rahane is one of them,” he said.
“However, I was suprised to see Suryakumar Yadav’s name missing from the squad. He can win matches like Adam Gilchrist and Rishabh Pant. The squad is balanced but SKy should have been there,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rahane has done well for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He is scoring runs briskly with the help of fours and sixes.
