David Warner has been a shocker as a captain and batter in the Indian Premier League 2023. While he has failed to lead the team to a win in four games so far, his slow batting has also impacted the overall scores.
In the last game against Mumbai Indians, he had an opportunity to run out Tim David to take the match to a Super Over, but his wayward throw resulted in Delhi Capitals‘ defeat.
He was asked about it in the post-match presentation ceremony, and the skipper turned up with the silliest excuse.
“I was trying to avoid Tim David from getting hit. Had I thrown on the bounce, the ball would have struck David, who was running towards the wicket-keeper. I went for a direct throw to the keeper, which didn’t go according to the plan,” he said.
Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag were shocked to hear the answer.
“What a silly excuse? For him, Tim David was more important than the win. He gave the silliest excuse as he doesn’t know what to say,” said Harbhajan Singh.
“Who asked him to stand at the boundary rope? Saving runs was more important as two were needed. Had he been standing a bit inside, the batter would have been run-out,” said Virender Sehwag.
