Cameron Green
Robin Uthappa represented the three-time champions and bought Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for INR 30.50 crore.

Australia’s Cameron Green has explained why he chose to list himself as a batter for the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. The all-rounder is among the 350 players shortlisted for the mini-auction, set to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16.

Green is set to be one of the hottest names at the mini-auction, but his listing as a specialist batter became an instant talking point given his proven all-round value. He later explained the confusion, saying the registration slip happened because his manager picked the wrong category.

“I’ll be fine to bowl. I’m not sure my manager will love me saying it, but the mix-up was because of him. He never intended to list me as a ‘batter’ and seems to have clicked the wrong box. It’s been amusing to see how it’s unfolded, but it was definitely an error,” Green was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

After back surgery ruled him out of IPL 2025, Green re-entered the international circuit in June in a batter-only capacity. Since then, he has steadily built up his workload and has now got the green light to bowl, which changes how teams can value him, from pure batting depth to a frontline pace all-round option.

Auction categories typically shape the sequence of the call list. With Green entered as a batter, he would be scheduled in the early groups to go under the hammer, a timing edge in a mini-auction. That’s when most teams still have full purses and the bidding is usually at its fiercest right at the start.

With a base of Rs 2 crore, Green could quickly become one of the loudest bidding moments of the auction. KKR and CSK are tipped to push the price up as they chase the Aussie all-rounder.
