BCCI penalized Rajasthan Royals batter Shimron Hetmyer for smashing the stumps after being dismissed by Sunrisers Hyderabad spinner Abhishek Sharma in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 match at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. Hetmyer was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under the IPL Code of Conduct and was fined 10% of his match fees after admitting to the offence.

Rajasthan Royals’ Shimron Hetmyer has been fined 10% of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 24 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai,” said an official statement released by the BCCI.

Former India cricketer Javagal Srinath, who was the match referee for the second Qualifier match, imposed a sanction on Hetmyer.

“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, and has admitted to and agreed to the match referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement continued.

BCCI did not reveal the reason , but it was most likely because of the batter’s reaction following his dismissal. SRH left-arm spinners Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed restricted the RR batters.

Hetmyer swung his bat before walking back to the pavilion after scoring 4 runs off 10 deliveries. RR were defeated by 36 runs. SRH will face KKR in the final of the 17th season.
