The Babar Azam-led side was highly criticized by the fans and legendary cricketers on social media for its poor performance in the recently-concluded ODI series against England.
Despite putting a big score on the board, the Men in Green lost the third and final ODI to Ben Stokes & Co., failing to avoid a 0-3 clean sweep.
Following Pakistan’s three-wicket defeat at the Edgbaston in Birmingham, legendary pacer Shoaib Akhtar slammed the visitors for their “hopeless” performance against an inexperienced England side.
The 45-year-old also asserted that the national board should remove the average players to improve Pakistan’s current situation.
“It’s a shameful performance. Our board is average. It brings average people, the management is average so obviously, they are going to build an average team. You can’t expect extraordinary things from average people. It’s wrong for you to expect,” the Rawalpindi Express said on his YouTube channel.
Reacting to Akhtar’s latest comments, Babar Azam said that his team gave its 100% in the series and there is no average player in it.
“I think he Shoaib Akhtar doesn’t think so, but all the players are giving their 100 % everywhere. I think you should ask him who a star is and who isn’t. I can’t argue or give comments on this,” the 26-year-old said in a virtual press conference.
Furthermore, Babar was adamant that he would back his players during this tough phase.
