India’s selection policy has once again come under the radar after Suryakumar Yadav was dropped from the playing XI for the third T20I against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The likes of Suryakumar and Ishan Kishan earned their maiden India call-up for the five-match T20I series against the Eoin Morgan-led side.

While the young batsman made it to the playing XI in both second and third T20Is, the 30-year-old didn’t get a chance to show his talent in his debut game as India won the match by seven wickets.

Surprised with Virat Kohli’s decision to bench SKY, former India batsman, Gautam Gambhir, pointed out that the Mumbai-born player should get a longer run in the team in order for the management to understand whether he should be in the T20 World Cup plans or not.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Gambhir said, “It amazes me, seven months before the World Cup he starts preparing for the World Cup and after the showpiece event he will start preparing for the next tournament. Imagine if there is an injury issue, what have you seen of Suryakumar Yadav.

“Probably give him that ‘opportunity in three or four games and see where he stands. If he delivers, you have got a backup for someone already batting at number four. We keep talking about preparations but this is just not a preparation for the World Cup,” the 39-year-old added.
