The upcoming Test series between India and Australia could decide KL Rahul’s future, feels former India player Saba Karim. He wants the right-handed batter to play in the middle order instead of opening the innings in the first game in Nagpur.
Karim said that Rahul is technically gifted and has experience of batting in the middle order.
Saba wants the management to open with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Since his century in the first Test against Bangladesh in December, Gill has hit a couple of tons in white-ball cricket.
“Shubman Gill should be India’s second opener because KL Rahul can bat at No.5. It will strengthen our batting unit. He will also get time to prepare himself. India need a technically sound batter at No.5. You need a player who can face cutters and spinners,” he said.
“It is a crucial series for KL Rahul as it wil decide his future in international cricket. Rahul has failed consistently and hasn’t come up with big scores in international games. KL Rahul should play 2 or 3 match-winning innings for his team.”
