On Friday, all ten franchises went overboard with their money at the auction and scripted history by making record deals for several players. Punjab Kings bought Sam Curran for 18.50 crores, becoming the most expensive player in the history of IPL.
CSK also strengthened their squad after buying England star Ben Stokes for a whopping 16.25 crores. The Yellow Army chased Sam Curran and Jason Holder before settling for Stokes as their premier all-rounder for the upcoming IPL season.
The internet erupted after knowing that Stokes will reunite with MS Dhoni in IPL for the second time after their previous stint with Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017. However, it also left the fans wondering whether MS would hand over the teams’ leadership to Stokes after what happened last year.
Notably, Dhoni stepped down as the captain last year but reinstated his role after Ravindra Jadeja could not handle the responsibility well.
Reacting to the questions of Stokes being Dhoni’s successor, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath said that Stokes is captain material, but it is not for the management to decide, and MS will take this call.
Further, Viswanath revealed that Dhoni is super excited to see Stokes join CSK. “We are lucky to have an all-rounder like Stokes join our team. The option for Stokes to become the captain is there, but Dhoni will take the call.”
