Shami was once again ignored by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, leading to criticism. Although Gill heaped massive praise on Shami, he also backed the bowlers currently in the team.
“There are not many bowlers who can match Shami’s quality. But the ones who are playing at the moment have been magnificent for the team. It is difficult for players like Shami Bhai to miss out. The selectors will be able to give you a better answer on his exclusion,” Shubman Gill said.
The 26-year-old also spoke about his workload management, having taken on the responsibility of leading in Test cricket and ODIs.
“I am trying to figure out how to manage everything. We have been playing non-stop cricket, travelling to different parts of the world and switching between different formats,” he added.
Gill mentioned that India will have to be at their best to beat South Africa at home. “It won’t be easy against South Africa, and we will have to handle tough moments. These two Tests are important in the race to the WTC final,” he concluded.
