Overview:
For his part, Moeen's extended list of potential candidates for the future Big Four included Harry Brook, Gill, Jaiswal, Rachin Ravindra, and Jacob Bethell, if he is allowed to pick five players. Meanwhile, Adil Rashid selected Brook, Gill, Jaiswal, and Bethell in his four-player list.
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali and wrist-spinner Adil Rashid recently discussed emerging players who could join the ranks of the next “Big Four” in international cricket. At present, the phrase “Fab Four” refers to Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson.
In their conversation, both Ali and Rashid singled out two promising Indian players as strong contenders for the next generation.
Moeen Ali commended Shubman Gill, the current captain of India’s Test team, for his outstanding batting displays, particularly in the recent Test series against England.
“Shubman Gill’s batting is pleasing to the eye, making it look almost effortless. In the recent series in England, his technique has improved significantly. He’s a solid player—very classy, elegant, and stylish. There are certain things you look for in a batter, certain shots or technique. Not many can execute that. The way he’s batting right now, he is completely in control,” he said on Beard Before Wicket.
He also expressed high regard for Yashasvi Jaiswal, praising his recent form and performance. Moeen believes that two Indian batters should feature in the next Big Four, with Jaiswal securing the second spot.
“You have to include two players from India. He (Yashasvi Jaiswal is a top-quality player, no doubt. I’d definitely put him in. He’s proven himself on challenging wickets in India, not the flat ones. He did exceptionally well in Australia and has also performed in England. He’s tough to bowl to. When you watch him, there’s no real weakness in his game. He handles spin very well. Joff did manage to trouble him a bit, but he’s still a quality player. I really admire his style. He’s going to accumulate a lot of runs,” he added.
