Rohit Sharma and Ravi Shastri
Ravi Shastri slammed Rohit Sharma over his captaincy in the 4th Test

India are trailing in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the visitors are 357/4 after lunch, courtesy of a 150+ run knock by opener Usman Khawaja and a century by Cameron Green.

Out of all the four surfaces, the present pitch in Ahmedabad is the most suitable for the batting side, which has resulted in Rohit Sharma being under the scanner for his leadership skills. Several experts want Sharma to don his creative hat and show his leadership prowess on such a surface.

Meanwhile, assessing the hitman’s captaincy on day 1, several experts were unhappy, including his national teammate Dinesh Karthik, who criticised Rohit and stated that taking the new ball after 81 overs was a bad move. Another expert to speak on the same lines and bash Rohit for his underwhelming captaincy on day 1 is former India head coach Ravi Shastri.

The 60-year-old slammed Rohit’s tactics and stated that his idea of taking the new ball to bring Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami into the attack was not wise.

“India lost the track last night. Taking the new ball was not wise. Umesh is 35, and Shami is no younger. They had bowled enough for the day, and to take the new ball and bring them back to the attack made no sense.”

Notably, Australia were 201/4 after 81 overs but upped their strike rate once India took the new ball and ended play on day 1 at 255/4.

“Things have moved fast for Rohit. He has not captained in many Test matches, and the ones he had, were on spin-friendly pitches. So, these surfaces are a learning curve for him, and he needs to put his thinking cap on.”
