Star batter Virat Kohli finally scored a fifty in IPL 2022, but his effort went in vain. After a string of low scores, including two golden ducks, Kohli accumulated 58 off 53 balls to help Royal Challengers Bangalore reach 170 for six against Gujarat Titans.

But the table-toppers won the game after David Miller (39) and Rahul Tewatia (43) stitched an unbeaten partnership of 79 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Some lauded Kohli’s innings; a few slammed him for his slow batting. He reached his fifty in 45 balls. Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen said Kohli would be angry that his runs didn’t help the team win the game.

Pietersen compared the 33-year-old with football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Virat Kohli is like Cristiano Ronaldo. One plays for Manchester United, and one plays for RCB. Those are big brands,” Pietersen said on Star Sports.

“Virat Kohli has won a lot of games for India while chasing. Virat Kohli is my greatest batter in this country because he has won so many games for India chasing,” he added.

“Kohli would be fuming that his runs weren’t enough for the win.” So far, he has scored 186 runs in 10 games at an average of 20.67.
