Pakistan players are currently barred from participating in the Indian Premier League due to political tensions between the two countries.
However, former Pakistan player Shoaib Akhtar said that the ban would be lifted one day, and the players from Pakistan would play in the cash-rich league in India.
He wants to see Babar Azam opening with Virat Kohli in IPL. “It would be great to see Babar Azam and Virat Kohli opening the innings together in the IPL one day; what a moment that would be.”
In the first edition of the league in 2008, 11 players from the neighbouring country were bought by 8 franchises, with Shahid Afridi being the most expensive amongst them. Afridi was sold to now-defunct team Deccan Chargers for INR 2.71 crore.
Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has been a part of the tournament as he holds a British passport. Azhar played Kings XI Punjab in 2012 and 2013 and one game for KKR in 2015.
The IPL 2022 is being played at the moment in Mumbai and Pune, with 10 teams contesting for the trophy.
