Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting rated Rishabh Pant's captaincy after the franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2022.

Delhi Capitals have been hit hard by COVID-19 cases, with six members testing positive so far. Apart from Mitchell Marsh and Tim Tim Seifert, Patrick Farhart (team physio), Chetan Kumar (massage therapist), Abhijit Salvi (team doctor), and Akash Mane (social media member) have returned positive tests.

According to Ricky Ponting, the preparations haven’t been good due to the virus, and things have been disturbed ahead of the match against Punjab Kings in IPL 2022.

“Our session yesterday was pushed back. The preparations haven’t been perfect and I addressed the group about the two options we have – drag our backsides around or take the positives and realise that we are here for a big tournament with a great franchise. You need leaders to stand up,” he said.

David Warner has been great, Rishabh Pant is good, and Mustafizur Rahman, apart from an over or two, has been good. The tournament for us so far but it has been a stop-start. I think it’s all there. The players are very aware of the way I want them to play. There have been interruptions with player availability, but we haven’t spoken much about that,” he added.
