The Rajasthan Royals (RR) will face the Gujarat Titans (GT) in game 24 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. This can be billed as the clash of the form teams in the IPL. Rajasthan are on top of the points table, having won three out of their four matches. They go into Thursday’s clash, having defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a close game by three runs. As for Gujarat, their three-match winning streak ended following a shock eight-wicket defeat at the hands of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Their batting was below par in the game, which cost them. However, Gujarat will be confident, having started off the tournament on a high note. Here are five player battles to watch out for in RR vs GT clash.

1. Jos Buttler vs Mohammed Shami: RR opener Jos Buttler has been in fantastic big-hitting form for the franchise. He hammered a brilliant century against Mumbai and followed it up with an impressive 70* against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He perished cheaply in the last game and will thus be keen to get back among the runs. When you are in rhythm, you want to make the most of it, and the feeling would be the same with Buttler as well. The ball is striking the middle of the match cleanly. Mohammed Shami has been one of the most incisive bowlers in the tournament so far. He will know the importance of Buttler’s wicket and will thus look to knock him over early.

2. Shubman Gill vs Trent Boult: Just like Buttler for RR, Shubman Gill also has been in terrific form for GT at the top of the innings. He played two back-to-back match-winning knocks. After smashing 84 off 46 against the Delhi Capitals (DC), he slammed 96 off 59 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a successful chase of 190. Gill has the rare ability to score at a fast pace even while playing proper cricket shots. After a failure in the last match, he will be looking to impress again. Trent Boult has been superb for RR at the top with the ball. He has been deadly accurate and has got the ball to move as well, catching batters off-guard. Gill will be challenged by Boult for sure.

3. Sanju Samson vs Rashid Khan: Like every year, this time too RR skipper Sanju Samson got off to a good start in the IPL. And, like every season, he has gone off the boil as well. Samson hammered 55 off 27 against Hyderabad and followed it up with 30 off 21 against Mumbai. He has only scored 8 and 13 in the last two matches, though. A consistent run from the skipper will be key for RR to do well in the competition. The good news is that he is looking in fine touch. In the middle overs, Samson will be challenged by the guile of Rashid Khan. The Afghan spinner might have changed franchises, but his efficiency remains the same. Considering Samson struggled against Wanindu Hasaranga, Rashid will have the upper hand over him.

4. Hardik Pandya vs Yuzvendra Chahal: GT skipper Hardik Pandya will be under a bit of pressure following his slow fifty against SRH. He did not look in great rhythm, although he spent time at the crease. He will look to improve his scoring rate for sure against RR. Hardik will be up against Yuzvendra Chahal in the second half of the innings. The leggie is the Purple Cap holder and has been in amazing form. He is expected to make life tough for Pandya.

5. Shimron Hetmyer vs Lockie Ferguson: Shimron Hetmyer has been sensational for RR at the death. Almost every time, he has come in and has taken the opposition bowlers to the cleaners. His role will be the same against GT as well. Pacer Lockie Ferguson has done well for Gujarat with his yorkers and short balls at a quick pace. But the same has been used by batters to their advantage as well. How Hetmyer handles Ferguson could be key to the RR vs. GT battle.
