MSD has struggled against spin lately, and hence RR could use leggie Yuzvendra Chahal against.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) will face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in game 68 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Rajasthan have 16 points from 13 games. A win will confirm their berth in the playoffs as they will end on 18 points. They can get through even with a loss as RC and DC are the only other teams that can finish with 16 points, and Rajasthan are set to end with a better run-rate than Bangalore. In their last game, RR got the better of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 24 runs. CSK, on the other hand, went down to the Gujarat Titans (GT) by seven wickets. Their batting was really poor. Here are five player battles in the RR vs CSK clash.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Mukesh Choudhary: Young RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been impressive since making a return to the playing XI. He is aggressive and has the strokes in the book to make a difference in the powerplay. This is exactly what he has been doing over the last few games. If he gets into a rhythm early, he automatically eases the pressure on Jos Buttler. However, he will be challenged by Mukesh Choudhary at the other end. The left-arm seamer has got the ball to move and has troubled most batters. He dismissed Ishan Kishan twice in the matches against Mumbai. The young batter looked clueless. Choudhary will be confident of putting up a good show against Jaiswal as well. This tussle could set the tone of the game.

2. Devon Conway vs Trent Boult: The Kiwi vs Kiwi battle in the IPL. After three consecutive fifties, CSK opener Devon Conway has been dismissed cheaply in the last two matches. He will thus be keen to turn things around. In the three games that he crossed fifty, he looked in excellent touch. The left-hander would want to end his IPL 2022 campaign with another good score. It won’t be easy against RR left-arm seamer Trent Boult, who has the ability to move the ball both ways. If he can get his line and length right, he can trap Conway early in the innings.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Prasidh Krishna: The other CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has got back among the runs in the second half of IPL 2022. However, his performance against Gujarat was quite bizarre. He scored 53 but needed 49 balls for the same, not getting a lot of momentum into his innings. He will be keen to improve his strike rate. Prasidh Krishna has done a good job for RR with the ball at the start and at the death. He has the pace as well as the accuracy to trouble batters. Can he dislodge Gaikwad cheaply?

4. Sanju Samson vs Matheesha Pathirana: This will be an interesting contest for sure. RR skipper Sanju Samson has looked to be ultra-aggressive right through IPL 2022. That has been his game plan. This is why he has a lot of cameos to his name and no big score. Since the move is working, he might continue to bat in the same fashion. ‘Baby Malinga’ Matheesha Pathirana made an excellent debut against GT. His slingy action caught a few batters unaware in the last match. Samson cannot take him lightly.

5. MS Dhoni vs Yuzvendra Chahal: One is unsure if MS Dhoni will return next year. There is a possibility that we might be seeing the last of the legend on the cricket field, at least in the IPL. If that is the case, he might promote himself. MSD has struggled against spin lately, and hence RR could use leggie Yuzvendra Chahal against. Chahal has been in fantastic form and will look to unsettle his former India captain. Dhoni, though would want to go down fighting.
