Rinku Singh played his first game of IPL 2022 against Gujarat Titans.

Rinku Singh played his first game of IPL 2022 against Gujarat Titans. Before batting, he was hailed for taking a good catch of GT skipper Hardik Pandya.

Chasing 157, KKR were 36/4 at one stage, but Rinku’s 35 runs off 28 balls gave the two-time champions some hopes. However, his effort went in vain as KKR fell short by 8 runs.

He has played 11 IPL matches since making his debut in 2018. In the past four seasons, the left-handed batter has been with KKR on a contract worth INR 80 lakh. Impressed by his commitment, the Knight Riders bought him for INR 55 lakh in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Rinku’s childhood was full of struggles. He was born in 1997 in Aligarh to Khanchand Singh, who delivered LPG cylinders in Lucknow.

Growing up in a family where facilities were not available, his brother got him a sweeper and cleaner’s job. When the young player took up cricket, he faced a lot of hardships.

He was given a motorbike for his exceptional performance in a local tournament in Delhi, which he presented to his father to make his life comfortable.

Singh was paid INR 10 lakh when he was with Punjab Kings in 2017, but he failed to make it to the playing XI.

The 24-year-old and his family’s life changed when the Kolkata-based franchise signed him for INR 80 lakh for the next season.

“I thought I would get 20 lakh, but I was picked up for 80! The first thought that came to my mind was that I would contribute to my big brother’s wedding and save up something for my sister’s wedding. I also thought of moving into a good house,” Rinku had told Indian Express.

Rinku has played 30 first-class matches, scoring 2307 runs at an average of 64 with five hundreds and 16 fifties. In 41 List-A matches, Rinku has an average of 50.
