He likes to take on spinners and would look to bring out the sweeps and switch-hits against Rashid Khan.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will take on the Gujarat Titans (GT) in game 67 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. This will be an evening game and hence will begin at 7:30 PM IST. While Gujarat have already qualified for the playoffs and would look to register one more win ahead of the next round, Bangalore are still unsure of whether they can make it. They need to first beat Gujarat and then hope the Mumbai Indians (MI) beat the Delhi Capitals (DC). In such a scenario, RCB will end on 16 points and Delhi on 14. GT have won their last two games comprehensively. They beat CSK by seven wickets in their last match. Bangalore were hammered by Punjab by 54 runs in their last game. Here are five player battles to watch out for in the RCB vs GT clash.

1. Faf du Plessis vs Mohammed Shami: RCB skipper Faf du Plessis has had a mixed IPL 2022. He has either been exceptional with the bat or has failed to inspire. His inconsistency has mirrored the team’s rise and fall in IPL 2022. However, with it being crunch time now, the Bangalore skipper cannot afford to fail. He will need to come up with a significant effort against GT. He will face a big hurdle in the form of Mohammed Shami. The Gujarat pacer has excelled at dismissing the key openers in the opposition camp. Shami will target Du Plessis’ wicket in the match against RCB. An intriguing battle on cards.

2. Wriddhiman Saha vs Josh Hazlewood: Ever since Wriddhiman Saha has come in to open the innings, Gujarat have looked a much more stronger outfit than before. Saha has all the gears in his batting. He can attack when needed and play with solidity when the situation demands. Saha guided the chase of 134 against CSK with a composed 67 not out. Josh Hazlewood had a very good IPL 2022 campaign until he was clobbered by PBKS in the last match. The Aussie’s confidence would have taken a dent after he conceded 64 runs in his four overs. He will be keen to come back strong. The early wicket of Saha can boost his belief.

3. Glenn Maxwell vs Rashid Khan: ‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell has blown hot and cold in IPL 2022. He has got quite a few starts but has failed to convert most of them into big knocks. However, Maxwell wouldn’t change his approach to the game because he has tasted his success by playing aggressive cricket. He likes to take on spinners and would look to bring out the sweeps and switch-hits against Rashid Khan. It would be a tough challenge, though, for the leggie will have his own ideas of how to trap Maxwell. Who will win this cat and mouse battle?

4. Hardik Pandya vs Wanindu Hasaranga: GT skipper Hardik Pandya has not been in great form with the bat over the last few games. He was the most consistent batter for the franchise in the first half, but since his return from injury, he hasn’t been the same. Pandya will be keen to lead from the front again. His tussle with Wanindu Hasaranga in the middle overs would be crucial. If he can go after the leggie and unsettle him, Pandya would have done a great job. It’s easier said than done, though.

5. Dinesh Karthik vs Alzarri Joseph: DK has been the one reason RCB are still alive in IPL 2022. He has played some incredible knocks at the death, and his consistency has been equally amazing. RCB would want one more big effort from Karthik in the match against GT. Alzarri Joseph has been the silent warrior for Gujarat, doing a good job with the ball without any fuss. He would look to stop DK in his tracks by bowling proper line and lengths. Karthik would have his answers ready. This could turn out to be a close contest.
