After being released by the Kolkata Knight Riders, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2022. The decision turned out to be good for the franchise as he has been their best player so far.
Such has been his impact that former India coach Ravi Shastri reckons he can play the role of a finisher for Team India in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
The right-handed batter has amassed 90 runs from three outings at a strike rate of 204.5.
“He has started well, and if he has a good season, surely he has a chance to play for the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup,” said Ravi Shastri while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.
“He has all the shots and experience, and there is no MS Dhoni in the side. Karthik can play the role of a finisher with perfection. There is Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and now Karthik as well. He comes in automatically if there is an injury,” he added.
RCB will face Mumbai Indians at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on April 9.
