Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar feels R Ashwin could struggle if the wicket at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad isn’t conducive for spinners. Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, he said the veteran spinner tends to use a lot of variations if there isn’t much spin on offer. He opined Rajasthan will have an upper hand if there is a turn on the wicket as they have two quality spinners.
“R Ashwin is a problem for RR on flat tracks as he tries a lot of variations. However, he becomes a dangerous bowler if there is turn on offer. Rajasthan will be ahead if the ball spins as they have Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, who will bowl in tandem.”
The cricketer turned commentator pointed out that the RR bowlers have leaked runs in the death overs and this could trouble the team in Qualifier 2.
“Death bowling has been a problem for RR. Trent Boult, who bowls with the new ball, hasn’t left much impact in the death overs. Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy are the available options.”
