Being highly experienced, he will be expected to take on the challenge of Kagiso Rabada head-on.

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in game 38 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. Punjab have been disappointing in recent matches, particularly with the bat. They got bowled out for 151 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and for 115 versus Delhi Capitals (DC). Following the losses, PBKS have moved down to No.8 in the points table. Chennai have won a couple of matches recently after a forgettable start to IPL 2022. In their last match, they got the better of the Mumbai Indians (MI) courtesy a MS Dhoni special. Still, they are languishing at No.9 in the points table. Here are five player battles to watch out for in PBKS vs CSK clash.

1. Mayank Agarwal vs Mukesh Choudhary: PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal will be under pressure, having failed to deliver in the last few matches. He will have to lift his game as leader and batter since Punjab have tasted defeat in three of their last four matches. It is no secret that, when in his elements, Agarwal is a brilliant exponent in taking advantage of the field restrictions. Agarwal will be up against a confident Mukesh Choudhary versus CSK. The left-arm seamer excelled against the Mumbai Indians (MI) with figures of 3 for 19. He got the ball to dart around and troubled MI’s batters. Can he do the same against Agarwal?

2. Robin Uthappa vs Kagiso Rabada: Robin Uthappa has scored more than 30 in only one of the last five matches. However, he has looked in great touch almost every time he has walked out to the middle. His 88 against RCB was instrumental in the team’s first win of the season. Uthappa will be keen to notch up another big score considering the other CSK batters are not in great form. Being highly experienced, he will be expected to take on the challenge of Kagiso Rabada head-on. Since PBKS’ batters have failed to deliver in the last two matches, the South African hasn’t had much to do. He was impactful in the earlier games though and would be keen to make an impression again.

3. Liam Livingstone vs Ravindra Jadeja: The last time PBKS met CSK, Liam Livingstone was completely dominant, hammering 60 in 32 balls. The England big-hitter has three 60s in the IPL and has been in terrific form. However, in the last match against Delhi, he was outfoxed by Axar Patel and was stumped as he was stranded down the wicket. CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja must surely have observed the same. Jadeja is a similar bowler to Axar and will look to catch Livingstone off guard with his tight bowling. Should be an interesting tussle.

4. Shivam Dube vs Rahul Chahar: Shivam Dube has been one of CSK’s star performers with the bat in IPL 2022. He has played a few crucial knocks under pressure, lifting the team from difficult situations. Dube has displayed a lot of maturity, but still has been able to score at a quick pace. He loves taking on the slow bowlers and will look to attack Rahul Chahar for sure. The PBKS leggie has some smart tricks up his sleeve and will look to unsettle the left-hander.

5. Jitesh Sharma vs Dwayne Bravo: Jitesh Sharma has been a surprise success story for PBKS in their IPL 2022 campaign. He has come in at the death and has played some breezy cameos to put the finishing touches to the innings. His role will be the same against CSK. However, he will be up against a master with the ball in the form of Dwayne Bravo. The Chennai bowler will be confident of trapping the young Sharma with his variations. Will the maverick PBKS batter have an emphatic response?
