Kuldeep Yadav was going great guns till MS Dhoni was a part of Team India. He was dealing in wickets, and his partnership with Yuzvendra Chahal won several matches for the Men in Blue in shorter formats.
However, he lost his magical touch after Dhoni’s retirement and soon lost his place in the Indian team.
If this was not enough, he was dropped by the Kolkata Knight Riders after some mediocre performances with the ball and was not even retained by the two-time champions for IPL 2022.
Delhi Capitals backed him, and Kuldeep was added to the squad after being bought at the mega auction in Bengaluru. He took three wickets and conceded just 18 runs from his four overs against Mumbai Indians.
His scalps included Rohit Sharma, Anmolpreet Singh and Kieron Pollard. After taming MI’s top batters, Kuldeep was asked about his phenomenal comeback to the tournament.
He credited Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting, who helped him with their inputs.
“Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting briefed me about the line and length I need to bowl in the game’s shortest format. I stuck to the plans and was able to take wickets in the first match against a side like Mumbai Indians. Rohit’s wicket was the most satisfying as he can be very dangerous.”
