With Rajasthan Royals’ win over Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians became the first team to be eliminated from IPL 2022.
The defending champions have lost 8 while winning just two games in the 15th season of the tournament. Even if they win the remaining four contests, they will reach 12 points, which won’t be sufficient to take them to the knockouts.
Rohit Sharma-led team had lost eight matches in a row before registering two wins in the tournament. Meanwhile, Rajasthan’s 6-wicket win was the seventh victory of the season and consolidated their position in the table.
Chasing 190 to win, the Sanju Samson-led outfit completed the task with two balls remaining. They lost just four wickets, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 68 off 41 balls. Shimron Hetmyer (31 not out), Devdutt Padikkal (31), and Jos Buttler (30) also played handy knocks.
