He has the variations and skills and will be keen to win the battle against Brevis.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) will face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in game 26 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday in the first match of the double-header. MI’s campaign is in tatters as they are yet to win a single match in IPL 2022. They have played five and lost five. The worrying part is they haven’t even come close to winning. In their previous match, they suffered a 12-run defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings (PBKS). LSG, meanwhile, have three wins and two losses from five matches. In their last match, they played a thriller against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), eventually going down by three runs. They would be keen to return to winning ways. Here are five player battles in MI vs LSG clash.

1. Ishan Kishan vs Avesh Khan: The clash of the Indian young guns in the IPL. Having been purchased for Rs 15.25 crore and with the pressure of expectations, Ishan Kishan began the tournament well. He scored a cracking half-century against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and followed it up with another good fifty in the next game. However, he hasn’t been at his fluent best since. With MI in deep trouble, he needs to rise to the challenge. Kishan will be up against Avesh Khan, who has proved again that he is among the most promising fast bowlers on the Indian circuit. He has troubled batters with his pace and accuracy and is also adding some variations. Both Kishan and Avesh are in the development stage. It will be interesting to see who goes one up in the clash.

2. Quinton de Kock vs Jasprit Bumrah: The battle of ex-teammates has thrown up some interesting results this season. And so, when Quinton de Kock, who was keeping wickets to Jasprit Bumrah last season, comes up against the MI pacer, it promises another intriguing clash. De Kock will look to assert his dominance over his former IPL teammate. He has been in good touch in the ongoing tournament and would look to continue the great form. Bumrah would also know a lot of De Kock’s secrets, having bowled to him in the nets. He will look to exploit that advantage.

3. Dewald Brevis vs Ravi Bishnoi: Young South African batter Dewald Brevis proved why he has been given the nickname ‘Baby AB’, coming up with an incredible knock against PBKS. It was a brief innings, but his assault on leggie Rahul Chahar, who ended up conceding 29 runs in his first over, was unadulterated aggressive cricket. MI batted very poorly to lose the advantage given by Brevis’ knock. With the franchise struggling, they will seek consistency from him. Being a naturally attacking batter, he will look to take on LSG leggie Ravi Bishnoi. The young bowler is also an aggressive cricketer who loves a challenge. He has the variations and skills and will be keen to win the battle against Brevis.

4. Marcus Stoinis vs Jaydev Unadkat: LSG miscalculated in a big way by sending Marcus Stoinis down the order against RR. Having said that, the Aussie all-rounder player brutal innings to keep LSG in the game till the end. Lucknow will surely allow him a few more overs at the death. Apart from Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat is likely to bowl in the slog for MI. Left-arm seamers have troubled Stoinis in the past. Can the experienced pacer find a way to deceive the Aussie big-hitter?

5. Suryakumar Yadav vs Jason Holder: Suryakumar has been among the few bright spots for MI in an otherwise disastrous season. With Kieron Pollard struggling, he will again be expected to get the big hits at the death. Suryakumar knows how to pick the gaps with precision. However, it won’t be easy for him against Jason Holder. The West Indian has many bags up his trick and will look to use his variations to keep SKY quiet. An intriguing battle in the offing.
