The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in game number seven of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The match will be significant for both teams as they lost their respective opening encounters in the edition. While Lucknow went down to Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets, CSK lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets. Not just the teams but the captains of both the franchises will also be under pressure. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja had poor outings on their leadership debut and will want to show significant improvements. Ahead of the LSG vs CSK clash, here are five player battles to watch out for.

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Avesh Khan: CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad experienced a rare failure against KKR as he fell to the pace of Umesh Yadav. He will be keen to get back among the big runs. What Gaikwad does very well when he scores is that he rarely lets the momentum slip. Even though it may seem that he is ambling along, that is not the case as he can score at a fast clip with proper cricketing strokes. Gaikwad will be up against Avesh Khan at the start of the innings. Avesh has the pace to unsettle batters at the top of the order. And he will be keen to repeat what he achieved for Delhi last season.

2. KL Rahul vs Adam Milne: LSG skipper Rahul got a brute of a delivery from Shami in the game against GT. He will want to put the disappointing start behind him and start afresh. Being the leader, Rahul would like to come up with the goods at the start and get the team off to a flyer. It is no secret that he has all the shots in the book. Having said that, Rahul is someone who has been troubled by genuine pace in the past. In Adam Milne, CSK have a tearaway fast bowler who can unsettle batters. Chennai would hope that he can do a Shami for them.

 3. Ambati Rayudu vs Ravi Bishnoi: Ambati Rayudu was unlucky in the last game as he was run out following a mix-up with Jadeja. He would want to make amends with a fluent knock against LSG. Rayudu has the game to control the middle overs. He can rotate the strike and slam the big hits as well. He is expected to be up against LSG leggie Ravi Bishnoi. The youngster may lack experience but he has shown over the last two seasons that he is an impact bowler. Bishnoi can get the big wickets with his smart line and lengths, outfoxing the batters. Rayudu has an advantage in his battle but Bishnoi cannot be written off.

4. Manish Pandey vs Dwayne Bravo: Manish Pandey has been around the IPL since the beginning of the IPL. He has played a few match-winning knocks for various franchises over the years. However, his consistency has been a question mark. When in form though he is as destructive as any player in the T20 business. If he is there in the middle or end overs, Pandey is likely to come up against the guile of Dwayne Bravo. The West Indian legend will look to unsettle Pandey with his slower balls and other variations. But Pandey can bring in his experience and fight the battle on equal terms. Whether he will is a different matter.

5. Ravindra Jadeja vs Dushmantha Chameera: CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja lacked rhythm in the previous innings against KKR. But he would know that he will be expected to shine against Lucknow if he gets a chance. Jadeja is capable of getting the big hits against both pace and spin. At the death, he is likely to come up against the guile of the underrated Chameera, who was LSG’s best bowler in the last match. The Sri Lankan has a good yorker and will look to stifle Jadeja with pace.
