Umran Malik has made a name for himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with his fast bowling. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has won 5 out of 7 games, and the 22-year-old has won the award for ‘fastest delivery of the game’ on all seven occasions. SRH fast-bowling coach Dale Steyn is working hard with the Indian youngster.
Amid his impressive bowling display, Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars’ owner Sameen Rana has compared Umran’s story with Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf.
While speaking on paktv.tv, Rana said the PSL franchise has inspired Indian cricket with Rauf’s inspirational journey in cricket. The Lahore-based team signed the fast bowler in 2018 without any experience in First-class cricket.
A year later, he played domestic cricket and international matches. “I am pleased that Lahore Qalandars have not just impressed Pakistan cricket but also Indian cricket. If you look at Umran Malik’s rise, you will see that it has been Haris Rauf’s inspiring story. Maybe the authorities had followed Haris’ story and must have thought, if it can happen in Pakistan, why not in India. Both started from white-ball cricket and are from Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
However, Malik had played for the Jammu and Kashmir team before joining the SRH in IPL 2021.
“I have never seen that happen before in IPL. And it happened until Haris, who became a successful bowler and gave others a new pathway. I hope it does not happen with Umran as we were lambasted when Haris was in our team and were accused of killing domestic cricket and affected the sport,” he added.
