Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni lauded Matheesha Pathirana after the debutant took two big wickets in his first IPL game. The Sri Lankan pacer, fondly known as junior Lasith Malinga, dismissed two batters while conceding just 24 runs in the 62nd match of IPL 2022.
The defending champions made four changes for the game against Gujarat Titans, and Pathirana was signed as a replacement for Adam Milne, who was ruled out of the league due to an injury.
Though Chennai lost the match, the young bowler was magnificent with pace and scalped Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.
“With Pathirana, the margin of error is less. He has a good slower one, and it will be tough to hit him if he bowls with pace. We will look to give him more chances. We are trying to find out our best playing XI and will also look to do that in the remaining matches,” said Dhoni during the post-match presentation.
Earlier, CSK scored 133/5 in 20 overs, which GT easily chased down.
