The experienced Indian pair of KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan will open the batting. Rahul also leads the team of the week.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition has completed five weeks. After 42 matches, the Gujarat Titans are on top of the points table. They have played eight matches and have won seven of them. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) are second with 12 points from eight matches. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) complete the top three. They have six wins from nine games. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are in the middle with 10 points after eight and nine matches, respectively. The Delhi Capitals (DC), the Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) begin the second half while the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) end it. Here is the IPL 2022 team of week 5, which features majority of Indians since they dominated the week.

Openers: KL Rahul (captain), Shikhar Dhawan

The experienced Indian pair of KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan will open the batting. Rahul also leads the team of the week. The LSG skipper scored his second hundred of IPL 2022 this week. Like his first hundred, the second also came against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Rahul scored an unbeaten 103 off 62 balls, slamming 12 fours and four sixes, as LSG beat MI by 36 runs.

PBKS opener Shikhar Dhawan played a match-winning knock against CSK in a crucial 11-run win. He scored an unbeaten 88 off 59 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, as PBKS scored 187 for 4 batting first. It was exactly the kind of knock Punjab were expecting from him after a couple of low scores.

Middle-order: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Ambati Rayudu

GT’s Wriddhiman Saha will be the keeper batter in the team. Saha scored a useful 25 against KKR and also took four catches. He followed it up with a blazing 68 off 38, which played a huge role in GT’s win over SRH. In a week dominated by opening batters, Abhishek Sharma also finds a place in the middle-order. He breezed his way to 47 in the thumping victory over RCB and followed it up with a defiant 65 against GT after SRH lost a couple of important wickets. CSK’s Ambati Rayudu also finds a place in the middle-order on the basis of his fighting 78 off 39 balls in the match against Punjab. He gave the opponents a real scare with some brutal hitting.

All-rounders: Krunal Pandya, Andre Russell, Rashid Khan

Krunal Pandya had one of his most fruitful weeks in the IPL after a long time. The LSG all-rounder claimed 3 for 19 in the win over MI, claiming the big wickets of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard. He was the player of the match for strangling PBKS with figures of 2 for 11 in four overs.

KKR’s Andre Russell was superb in the match against GT. It was a performance that did not deserve to come in a losing cause. First, he sent down the last over in GT’s innings and claimed four wickets in it. With the bat, he slammed 48 in 25 balls, but KKR lost as he found no support at the other end.

For GT’s Rashid Khan, it was truly an all-round week. He was the man of the match for figures of 2 for 22 against KKR. In the next match against SRH, he hammered an unbeaten 31 off 11 as GT stunned the opposition.

Bowlers: Umran Malik, Kuldeep Sen, Kuldeep Yadav

Umran Malik deserves to be in the playing XI of the week for his five-wicket haul. He picked up all five wickets to fall for SRH against GT, blowing the batters away with raw pace. It wasn’t enough for victory though. Pacer Kuldeep Sen claimed 4 for 20 for RR against RCB, coming up with a brilliant effort. DC’s Kuldeep Yadav again ran through KKR with a four-fer and was again named Player of the Match. He really seemed keen to prove a point.
