Ravi Shastri had lauded the cricketer for his performance and predicted his rise as the team's main all-round star in future.

Ravi Shastri was considered one of the finest all-rounders during his heydays. In his 11-year long international career, Shastri was a part of the teams that won the 1983 World Cup and the 1985 World Championship of Cricket. In the 1985 tournament, he was adjudged the Player of the Series and also went on to win the prestigious Audi 100 car.

Post-retirement, he has worked as a commentator and the head coach of the Indian team. He recently opened up on the amount of money he would have earned if he had gone under the hammer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

“Comfortably in the 15 crore bracket. Comfortably! And captain of the side. There is no doubt about it,” said Shastri while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, his tenure as India’s head coach was a successful one. The sub-continent team won two Test series in Australia and led in England when the last match was called off due to COVID-19.

The only regret would be the team’s performance in the ICC tournaments. While India were eliminated in the 50-over World Cup semis, the team failed to reach the knockout stage in the T20 World Cup. Even in the ICC World Test Championship, the Virat Kohli-led team lost to New Zealand in the finale. Ravi Shastri is currently working as a commentator in IPL 2022.
