Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Robin Uthappa recently spoke about his difficulty calling his good friend MS Dhoni as ‘Mahi Bhai,’ like the other teammates.

Speaking on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel, Uthappa revealed that he had also spoken about it to Dhoni.

The wicketkeeper-batter stated that the CSK skipper told him to call him by a name he was comfortable with.

“Today, it is very hard for me to call him Mahi Bhai. When I came to know him for the first time, he was Mahi or MS. I played with him after 10-12 or 13 years. So, I asked him, what should I call you, dude? He said call me MS, or call me Mahi or call me whatever suits you.”

He recalled that he first met Dhoni during the Challenger Trophy in 2004. Then, Sridhar Sriram introduced Uthappa to the future Indian captain.

“I met him for the first time in 2004. I was playing my first Challengers trophy at that time, and it was in Bombay. Sridharan Sriram was close to Dhoni and he introducted MS to me. But that meeting was very brief,” he added. He is currently playing for the four-time champions in IPL 2022.
